Through a robust partnership of students, research experts, public service faculty and university specialists, communities harness the resources of one of the nation’s top land-grant and sea-grant universities.

The Archway Partnership is committed to expanding the reach of UGA’s public service and outreach mission to historically under-resourced communities and craft customized solutions in collaboration with community leaders and residents.

Funding Opportunities

Look Ahead Georgia

The Look Ahead Georgia initiative introduces UGA students to a wide range of career opportunities available in their rural hometowns spanning nearly every field of study and encourages them to return home to experience internships and a broader community experience. Each summer, participating students from rural Georgia complete paid internships in Archway communities within their home region. In addition to giving students first-hand knowledge as working professionals in their hometowns, the program is designed to retain local talent, strengthen rural workforce and economy, and foster engagement within the community. 

Graduate Student Internships

Internships at the undergraduate and graduate level allow students to learn more about economic development and community capacity, building the opportunity to work alongside academic and public service faculty on real-world problems. By having access to a network of professionals, at UGA and in the state’s communities, students develop those key skills that transform them into community champions. Internships are geographically dispersed across the state and often become the site for an intern’s first professional role in economic development. 

Rural Career Exploration Tours

These immersive multi-day exploration tours are designed to address critical workforce shortages in rural communities. Rural communities have shortages of health care professionals, veterinary professionals, engineering professionals and more.  These customized tours provide an opportunity for students to experience an option to practicing in a rural setting and deep-dive into not only career opportunities but also economic and social advantages of a smaller community. 

Rural Health Experiential Learning

Support the work of Archway’s rural health initiative by providing funds to transport, house and feed students who participate in community health projects. From health fairs to needs assessments, UGA students are improving the health and well-being of rural communities with their presence assessing, engaging and educating community members on a variety of health issues. 

Implementation Grants

Implementation grants allow the Archway Partnership leadership team to fund modest enhancement or improvement projects within active communities to further demonstrate the tangible and positive results of active community engagement.

Contribute Resources for Networking and Leadership Events

Funds needed to plan, design and host the annual Archway Partnership Summit, Archway Day and Archway Leads for current and former committee members as well as other community participants amounts to $30,000 on an annual basis.

The Archway Partnership Summit creates a forum for exchanging ideas, reviewing current research and providing critical training to the long-term success of the Archway Partnership model.

Archway Day highlights one active Archway Partnership community and provides an excellent backdrop for narrating to the broader community the value of this university engagement. This celebration engages active CRC participants, other Archway Partnership communities and alumni communities in a robust exchange of ideas.
