The community is being asked for its input.
The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, the United Way of Camden, Family Connections, Georgia Center for Nonprofits and the Archway Partnership have partnered together to undertake a community needs assessment survey.
Open to the general public of Glynn, McIntosh and Camden counties, the online survey is available for community discussion and concerns about how to best spend money each county receives locally and federally.
“Right now, we have two strategic areas of focus - education and literacy and capacity building for our local nonprofits,” said Lee Owen, executive director of Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation. “We want to be open for other suggestions from the community, and that’s what we’re doing right now.”
Over the summer, a random mail survey was sent to 5,000 households. Now, an online survey is available that asks questions like what the greatest challenge facing Glynn County is and how satisfied people are with transportation and quality of life.
Owen says she hopes at least 1,500 people participate in the survey.
The results will become available in late fall.
Joy Burch, Archway professional for Glynn County, says it’s vitally important to understand the need for a service before attempting to implement it.
“In this time of limited governmental and nonprofit resources, the need to know the community’s self-identified major issues in order to use the resources of the nonprofit community for maximum impact is essential,” she said.
Archway identifies needs and uses the resources of the University of Georgia to address them.
To take the survey, anyone in Glynn, McIntosh and Camden Counties may log on to www.coastalneeds.com and enter the access code “citizen.”
