Washington County : General

 

Washington County is centered between the cities of Atlanta and Savannah, and between Macon and Augusta. Washington County has a vibrant economy based primarily on mining, but also includes manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture. Known as “The Kaolin Capital of the World,” Washington County is renowned for this mineral which is mined and processed in the community and is shipped around the world.

Washington County is also widely recognized for its history, The county was formed in 1784 and is one of Georgia’s original ten counties. The community hosts a wide variety of historical sites and is widely known for its beautiful homes and architecture.

The community also serves as an economic hub for much of the east central Georgia region. While rural in character and offering small town charm, the cities of Sandersville and Tennille in Washington County offer amenities and services for a much larger regional economy that includes as many as 50,000 individuals.

The Archway Partnership Project portal in east central Georgia is located in Washington County Georgia. Local partners include the City of Sandersville, City of Tennille, Board of Commissioners for Washington County, Washington County Regional Medical Center, and the Washington County Board of Education.
